Greases are liquid-to-solid substances made by thickening base oil with metal soaps.
This substance creates a layer that separates the rolling elements from the outer and inner raceways, reducing abrasion and surface wear. It also protects them against corrosion and the ingress of contaminants. About 90% of all roller bearings are lubricated with plastic greases.
